Today was Glen Taylor Schools Annual Culture Festival and it was awesome! So many beautiful colours, music, yum food, awesome dances and entertaining intermissions. Our student leaders had hosts the festival today and we did a pretty good job! I loved getting to see all the different tastes of dances and music from every culture group and everyone was absolutely stunning in their awesome uniform! I was in the Samoan group and it was very fun performing on the stage, even though it was very very hot. Island plates were on sale also some homemade/shop sweets from parents! It was a fun, relaxing and exciting day and because it was my last Culture Festival at Glen Taylor School, it was the best!

Head of the World
For writing Room 11 wrote short narratives about an image that Miss Tupou put up on the board. The image is below. We had to give a detailed description about the image but we had to at least have one figurative language in our story. Room 11 included rich writing so that the reader was able to paint their own picture in their head. Here is my story about - THE HEAD OF THE WORLD!
Enjoy!

Titanium - Show Don't Tell
In class we watched the first few seconds of the music video Titanium. We then used the show don't tell technique to describe the music video. The difference between show and tell is that show gives gives the reader more detail and paints a picture in their heads but tell only gives one or two simple sentences. Here is how Room 11 used the Show Don't Tell technique to describe the music video Titanium.
Figurative Language
In class we learnt about figurative language and how they are used in writing. We created a planning including different figurative languages, how they are used and examples of them. Here is our Figurative Language planning.

Island Styles
Today, Glen Taylor School had a Mufti Day which was run by the Student Leadership Team. They are fundraising for Fiji, Taveuni because they were recently hit by Cyclone Winston and because they are fundraising for Fiji, they thought why not make the theme ... Island Styles. A lot of students came dressed up in traditional dresses, lava lava's, jandals and we all definitely looked awesome! It was so great that it was worth taking a photo of!
This photo was taken after our whole school practise for our sasa.

To my beloved parents .....
For LCS we have been learning about migration and how our ancestors arrived in New Zealand. To and of all of our learning about migration, we decided to write thank you letters to the people that migrated to New Zealand for us. My parents migrated to New Zealand for me and during our lessons I have learnt that they are the ones I should thank for all the opportunities I am given and for this helpful education I have. Here is my thank you letter to thank my parents for migrating from Samoa to New Zealand.
Think about who migrated to New Zealand for you? Maybe write them a thank you letter!

Do you have a goal?
Today, Glen Taylor School had their goal setting evening for 2018. The reason we have these events is so that our parents are familiar with where we are at for the year and where we need to be by the end of the year. We introduce them to our new teacher for 2018 and share with them our goals for each subject. Here are a couple of my goals for 2018!

What is your migration story?
In class for LCS, we are learning about Migration and how our ancestors came to Aotearoa! We have already had a few lessons about it and I have really enjoyed learning about how my people came to New Zealand and all the struggles they went through.

Book Review
As one of the members of Extension Group for reading we were given tasks to complete. One of the tasks we had to do was to write a book review on a story in the book ToiToi! Maths Warm-Up
Yesterday, Miss Tupou taught the class some new strategies for maths. I had only learnt how to do it today as I was busy doing something else. Learning it today I didn't know what to do but I'm glad Miss Tupou taught explained how to do it again. The strategy was very interesting and I enjoyed learning something new today! Here is evidence of our learning as a class!
Maths Warm-Up #2
For maths we learnt a strategy that we could use when doing times table. Miss Tupou would put up questions on the board and we would then try and figure out the answer using the strategy we just learnt. Here is our working out for this maths warm-up!

Positive or Negative - What does it lead to?
During the time we had today with Mr Victor, we were given a couple of tasks. We were focusing on the negatives and the positives of showing our school values. What is something good that we do to show our school values? Or something bad. What could this choice lead to? We created 4 statements each for positive and negative things that we do at school. Later on we were given our second task. To create a board game using these statements. I decided to create a snakes and ladders board game. I will be posting about that later on but here is my positive statements and negative statements.
Hope you learn more about the different consequences you can get about the decisions you make.

Here you go!
Pasifika Pearls 2018 ( O.G )
This year Pasifika Pearls is now taken over by... the one and only MISS SIALE! The year has zoomed by so fast that the O.G Pearls have already had a performance. We performed in front of around 230 people last night in the school hall! Sadly the O.G Pearls are starting to decrease as we only have 5 people in our group and next year there will be only 3! Wow!
Anyways, last night was one of my favourite pearls performance because we all looked very pretty and we also performed a new Fijian Dance! Thanks to Miss Tupou and Whaea Pene for helping Miss Siale out with our costumes and hair!
Here are some photos and a video of us girls getting ready for our big performance!
