Play Based Learning

This term the teachers have decided to do play based learning. We are aiming to do this every day. Sometimes we do it with other classes as well. Play based learning is when your class gets to play with random junk. For our first week we used things like beans, blocks, sheets, boxes, maths equipment and many other things to enjoy. It would be much better is we had different objects to play with so that we don't get bored playing with the same things. The purpose of this is to help grow a creative imagination and keep our brain flowing with different ideas.

Did you know that when we play we are still learning new things! What do you think about play based learning? Have you done it before? Would you do it?

  1. Hi Amy.

Thanks for writing about your learning. I would love to hear more about what your class did for play based learning. I have heard of this approach being used with junior classes but never with seniors. What did you think about it? Were you expected to create something from your play or could you just play? Would you want to continue doing this? Are you able to describe what you learnt while you were playing?

I really enjoyed play based learning! I think it was not only a great way to build a bigger imagination but also good for the teacher to see the creative thinking of the students when doing play based learning!

We were not expected to create something from the objects that were given but just to do whatever we wanted to do. Although a humongous mess was made, it was eventually cleaned up afterwards. I certainly think that Room 11 should carry on doing this activity because they really enjoyed it.

While doing play based learning I learnt the reason why students need creativity in their ideas and playing with the different objects showed me that your imagination is a huge impact when doing your work. Play based learning was a great way to show me that imagination and creativity is one of the biggest things needed when doing anything.

Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting on my work.

      Amy
